Description

Food-grade, biodegradable bird repellent Bird Shield bird repellent spray repels birds from nesting, loafing and roosting in and upon structures, marinas, and homes. It is also sprayed on crops such as sunflowers, fruits, vegetables, grains and beans. Birds find it unpalatable and inedible and seek untreated food sources elsewhere.

Research has shown that the active ingredient in Bird Shield irritates their olfactory nerves. When birds try to eat crops treated with the repellent, it's flavor causes them to immediately reject the food. Birds then associate the odor with the taste and continue to feed elsewhere. On large crops that have been treated with the repellent, the odor alone is sufficiently irritating to drive most birds from the orchard or field.

Bird Shield is an environmentally safe product tested on commercial buildings in Lewiston, Idaho built between 1880 and 1920. It was developed with major university and USDA assistance. The active ingredient, Methyl Anthranilate, is made from a constituent of concord grapes and has been used for decades by the food and drug industry to flavor candy, gum, sodas and drugs. It has been effectively used in all 50 states for corn, sunflowers, rice, fruit, and turf and has recently been registered by EPA for cereal grains, including: sorghum, millet, and oats. Included on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's "Generally Recognized As Safe" (GRAS) list.
